I am currently volunteering in Sadhana Forest in India. It is a community driven project to replant the indigenous trees in Tamil Nadu that were cut down decades ago. Part of this project is education of the local population in better farming practices and water conservation, something that is a massive problem for farmers and leads people to moving into the cities to live in slums. By planting trees Sadhana Forest has raised the water table making farming in the region more viable. I will be in Sadhana forest for the next 3 weeks helping in this project and learning about community living and other interesting aspects like compost toilets and veganism.
At the moment Sadhana Forest is working to open a new site in Kenya where they are trying to grow food forests so the local communities can benefit from the food they grow slowing being able to move away from relying on foreign aid.
Please help make this possible by voting for them on on Hivos.
